Headlines

Nearly every morning I wake up to my newsfeed being flooded with headlines like these:

2 Weeks, 8 Terror Attacks, 247 Victims
Shooting in Baton Rouge Leaves 3 Police Dead
Video of Alton Sterling Being Killed by Police

My heart aches and my soul is afraid for the future of my daughter and the generations to come. It seems as though evil in all forms is growing and running rampant.  Racism is being stirred up in our country, terrorists are killing hundreds of people and the world seems like it could become a full-fledged war at any time.  It is easy to become discouraged by what we see in the headlines on a daily basis.  The good news is, however, there is so much going on that we cannot see and this is where the Bible tells us to focus our attention.

2 Corinthians 4:18
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

I had the privilege of spending a week at camp with our youth group a few weeks ago.  The first night of camp over 125 students accepted Jesus Christ!  Did you hear that?  One hundred and twenty-five people were added to the Kingdom of God and filled with the Spirit of the Living God!  The room felt as though it had electricity running through it.  The energy and excitement to worship our Lord and hear the Word of God was incredible.  This didn’t make any headlines nor did it come across your newsfeed, but it happened!  It’s hard to believe that students could go for a week without their phones or playing Pokemon Go, but they did!  I believe our students in America are still hungry for the one true God.  Throughout the week my spirit was so encouraged to see students and leaders passionate about God.  Could it be that there is so much more happening in the Kingdom of God than we realize?  Is it possible that the Kingdom we belong to as believers is far greater in power than all the evil in the world?  I believe so!

Acts 2:17
"And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams."

I am convinced that as Christians we have a secret weapon that is more powerful than any nuclear weapon or act of terrorism and it is called the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit lives in us, He prays through us, and He is our direct line to the Father.  When He prays through us, it is His perfect will.  He knows the words to pray concerning racism, terrorism, and all evil.  He will give you the right words to speak to the people He places in your path.  God’s Word tells us that He has already decided to pour out His spirit on all flesh.  He wants your sons and daughters to prophesy and proclaim God’s Word to dry bones and dead hearts.  He wants you as a believer to open your mouth and breathe life to a lost and dying world that is desperate and searching for hope!

As Pastor Chad said last Sunday, “Open the eyes of this generation God, show them who it is they serve!" We serve the most powerful God whose Word is to be our HEADLINE on a daily basis.  Do not allow your spirit to be influenced by what you see in your newsfeed headlines. I don’t think we are supposed to take a back seat to the chaos going on in our world.  I believe we should take a stand and allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us to change this world. We were created to make an eternal difference in this temporary world. Undoubtedly, there are problems in our nation but there is a story being written and we can take control of the narrative.

There is more power in one drop of the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ than in ALL the evil that this world will ever contain!

As a mom to a teenager the cry of my heart right now is for her to know God, to love Him, to hear His voice, and to be obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit.  I know the first place to start putting this to practice is in my own heart and home. I encourage you to do the same. Pray, please pray all the time. Pray in the Spirit. Read the Word of God often.  It will encourage your Spirit and empower you to make a difference in this world and to change the headlines we read.  I leave you with this headline about the God we serve...

There is more power in one drop of the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ than in ALL the evil that this world will ever contain!
